During the week, I was thinking that what could be the best instructions in golf ?. And I had realised that repeated emphasis on the basics or fundamentals of golf swing which include , ball position, address, Primary and secondary Spine angles, grip, are absolute paramount for a desirable outcome. So in this week post , I have decided to talk about few basics of hitting golf shots which are not spoken very often by the golf coaches during the teaching process. So let’s get started :🀄
Q👉📍 What you should do, If the golf ball is above your feet..?
#☑️🟢 Since the independent arc of your body and the arc at the top of the golf ball will differ because of the difference in hight at respective resting positions.
➡️ Get into the address position and keep the position of the golf ball slightly back in your stance.
➡️ Thereafter to compensate this error naturally injected by the resting position of the golf ball ( which is above your feet), you have to make certain adjustments at your address position itself . hence you should grip down or choke down on the golf club to make up for the fact that the ball is closer to your torso / sternum than normally it would have been.
➡️ Be sure to aim well right of the target because a shot from this type of lie will tend to go more left than you would normally expect. The higher the ball above your feet, the further right you should aim.
➡️ Do not forget to release the club head properly through the impact zone for a predictable outcome.
Q👉📍 What you should do ?, If the golf ball is below your feet??..
☑️🟢. In this situation, the independent arc of your body at address position will reduce and the arc at the top of the golf ball will increase. This difference is essentially due to the difference in hight at respective resting positions.
➡️. Set up with the golf ball by keeping it forward in your stance.
➡️. Make use of the full length of the club (don’t choke down).
➡️. Aim well left of the target because shots from this types of lie tends to force the ball to go to the right side.
➡️. The lower the golf ball below your feet, the more left you should aim.
➡️. Do not forget to release the club head properly through the impact zone for a predictable outcome
Q👉📍 What you should do ?, If the you have a downhill lie?
☑️🟢. In this situation , the independent arc of your body at address position will remain same and body will have a tendency to fight the gravity at address position. In such situation , there are tendency to lift up or dip down the upper body during the golf swing leading to thin or fat shots.
➡️. The key to playing a downhill golf shots are to set up with the ball in the middle of your stance, with your shoulders angled evenly with the slope of the ground ( most important).
➡️. Take a stance and lower your CG ( Centre of Gravity) by increasing flex in your knees. To compensate this knee flex, you should grip down a bit on the club head depending on the steepness of the slope.
➡️. The downhill lie will deloft the club at impact by virtue of the slope, hence take a lower club. For e.g instead of 8 Iron take 9 Iron.
➡️. Expect the ball to come out lower than normal with plenty of spin, and aim accordingly.
Q👉📍 What you should do ?, If the you have an uphill lie ?
☑️🟢. In this situation , the independent arc of your body at address position will remain same and body will have a tendency to fall back at address position due to gravity pull. In such situation , there are tendency to dip down the upper body during the golf swing leading to fat shots or hitting into the slope.
➡️. Set up with the ball in the middle of your stance with the clubface square or even a bit closed.
➡️. The Uphill lie will increase the loft of the club at impact by virtue of the slope, hence take a higher club. For e.g instead of 7 Iron take 6 Iron.
➡️. Expect the ball to come out higher than normal with less spin, hence pic your club correctly to make it to the centre of the green accordingly.
