Hello Everyone

1.        Today, I am going to talk about a very different yet aptly applicable aspect in Golf as well as in our daily lives. So lets get started and understand the concept of using minds-sight to gain a unique advantage in our sporting and professional life.

2.        Hey Folks, Have you ever thought why do best players in the world have a Sports Psychologist on their pay roll ?. I am sure not really. The main reason to have them on the pay roll is that we do not want to confront ourselves enough with the realities and in turn give birth to more conflicts to our fertile mind. So this task of systematic training of their mind to deal with such situations and add an extra high octane fuel to enhance their success rate is often dealt by the Sports Psychologists.

3.        Let us start by accepting that difficult situations and troubling emotions are often inerasable part of our personality within which we start operating and consider them as outer boundaries of causing trouble. But if we look more holistically, you will realise that in actuality, they are shaped by the structure of our human brain top-up with our real-time experiences coming from our childhood days.  This is the precise reason, I have thought of writing this blog to help you to “Discover the power of mind-sight by learning to Reflect, Train and Regulate your emotional & physical responses to the variety of situations .” These situations may arise while playing a round of golf on our favourite golf course or in our daily living where it is expected to manage our everyday situations and uncertainties.

4.        If you are with me on the subject till now  then, I would ask you to take a step back to reflect on your thoughts and try to pin-point the real source of their origin. You will realise that majority of time, it’s our anxiety of expected outcome with non-calibrated efforts coupled with our reluctance in accepting realities make us react in many ways. This is where we lose out our personal edge to other competitors in the golf course or in our professional spaces.

5.        One of the important concept of mind-sight practice which I call it as a first step is to find a balanced Harmonic-Self. Whether you are a strict or a spontaneous in your respective spaces, let me tell you that too much focus on either extreme can make you hard to be around and leave you often unsatisfied. To make you understand in a more simpler terms, let me take you towards your familiar grounds. Do you recollect, while watching a PGA Tour broadcast on the Neo Sports or on Ten Golf TV , you must have heard numerous times the commentators saying this, especially on the Final round – “folks this guy is in his own ZONE today, somehow he has found his ZONE and it seems that other players in the field our only going to be in a catch –up mode.  Just to sight few examples to refresh your memory – Remember Tiger Woods first Masters win in 1997 by a record margin over rest of the field OR Rory Mcllroy’s first US Open win wherein he set 11 US Open records. Now, having said that, I have a few queries for you to answer :-

  • Have you ever thought what is this ZONE these TV commentators are talking about during these broadcasts?
  • How does it come into existence?
  • What It takes to make it happen?
  • Where does it exist? And How long it will Exist?.
  • Can I make it happen for myself during my round of golf ?

 6.       These all queries stated above have one and ONLY one answer –“ Learn to Create a Harmonic Self”. In my words Harmonic Self is a creation of balance between your mental and physical self. This is what I would prefer to call finding your ZONE” . I understand that, it might appear hard to grasp in abstract terms, but do not worry I am going to suggest a process with which you can make it happen in real time. To begin with, start by accepting that its normal to act in a range of different ways. Secondly, aim to create a rationality between your analytic thinking and emotional-self. Thirdly, do not indulge in Over-thinking on some or other pretext.

7. Let me give an example to make it easier for you to imbibe this concept  – Suppose you are standing on a TEE-Box on a PAR 3 hole and  you have taken all factor into consideration before hitting a golf ball and yet  you witnessed an absolutely horrible outcome. What is the most common reaction you folks out there see ? The natural reaction which a golfer exhibits is to blur out all possible abuses and self criticism directed towards himself OR displacement of anger to something insignificant to the outcome. So now Question is what should we do ?  My Suggestion to the fellow golfers is to indulge in a quick re-assessment of your swing by looking at the club face, Impact position, divot and observing your balance in the golf swing. By doing so, you have just made a honest attempt to find out what was different in last golf swing  which has lead to this kind of unacceptable shot ? This thought of re- assessment will act as a catalyst to make a peace with your physical and emotional-self and will keep you more focused on the task in hand rather than spending your precious energy on an unproductive acts. This will also help you to retain confidence in your ability and will prevent the self doubting thoughts to infiltrate your beautiful mind.

8.        Mind-sight is an invaluable tool to train your brain to make a neutral relationship between our two half’s. (Mental & physical self) and increase our emotional awareness. It is basically built on the three pillars and I call it as 3O’s (Observation, Objectivity & Openness).  Although, it is very easy to tell someone to keep their temper /reactions under check but in reality, it can be very tough and challenging to execute and manage it.  So, I suggest you the following to meet unexpected challenges you will find on the Golf course and in Life:

  • Keep a diary where you can record all your emotional reactions happened while playing on the golf course or at work place rather than rationalising them and dismissing them instantly.
  • Learn to observe your mind and notice when distracting thoughts pull you away from your focus. Objectively assess them and thereafter openly accept their existence to work on them to fuel your success rate.
  •   Remember, all reactions are not necessarily be presumed as a ingrained behaviour of ours , rather they can also be just a fleeting parts of our unique experience.
  •  I suggest you to take up Meditational exercises of your liking. Let it be anything it really doesn’t matter as ong as you like doing it,  this will train you to focus only on one thing and whenever you get distracted , it will help you to return to your focus quickly.
  • Whenever you find yourself in such situations, I want you to imagine a picture of Sea & its everlasting Waves. You will realise that the waves on the surface are more volatile yet the sea surface beneath remain very calm and stable. My suggestion is that even if you react badly to any golf shots/ situations , thinks them as a surface waves and let it go away to meet the shore. This thought will help you to realise that your inner self is actually calm and will allow you to let go the temporarily reactions instead of building on thm to spoil your round of golf.

9. I would always like you to remember my Key phrase- O3R3 or OR33 ( write this on your Golf Gloves or on your working desk :-

  • Be OBSERVANT of your actions..
    • Be OBJECTIVE in your assessment.
    • Be Open in your acceptance.
    • Be RECEPTIVE & RE-WORK on them and RE-FUEL yourself with a high octane value to increase your success rate exponentially.

Golf and Life are Akin to Each-other.

Golfing – in -Times OF CORONA VIRUS

1.        Hello my beloved golfers, your emotional turmoil is very much understandable, especially when you are not allowed to go out and play golf. Believe me, I am too undergoing my share of mood swings in these testing time which can be occasionally frustrating to the regular golfers. During my casual conversations with golfers after the nation –wide restrictions, I have found that most of them have sounded as if couple of bottle of pure blood has been taken out of their body, leaving them lazy in their mind and body. Some of us must have broken few items in the house while practising in lawns or putting indoor leaving our another-half’s wondering as to what has happened to these creatures ? Have they gone crazy.? Have they lost their rational self .? Will they ever get normal again ?….Haaaa Haaa Haaa Haa….Haaaaaaaaaa.. You must be wondering why I am laughing?.  I would like to inform all those beautiful ladies out there who have found a golfer in their husband that please do not get worried. It’s absolutely normal to have such occasional bouts/fits to your golfer husband in the times of restrictions whether it’s imposed by you or by the Political Heads. Folks you may show this blog to them for their comfort. This is the precise reason, I have thought of writing this blog.

2.        Although the restrictions on outdoor movements is called upon to arrest this deadly pandemic and is an opportunity for us to show our National Social Responsibility. Guys , rest assure, I am not going to talk about Corona preventions, rather I am going to tell all the golfers as to how you can hone your golfing skills while staying at home and that to without causing any damage to your home/property.

3.        In Golf, the basic fundamentals are of utmost importance. It is these fundamentals on which entire foundation of our golf swing is based for a desirable outcome. The some of these basics are Grip, Grip Pressure, Ball position, Initial Takeaway, Transition, Swing Plane and Putting stroke. All these basics can be worked at home during these social distancing times. I can assure you that you will find a sea change in your game whenever you will step out on the course. So let’s start and learn as to how we can accomplish this at our homes and keep that golfer inside us alive and kicking.

4.        We are aware that Golf Swing is an inclined circular path on which the club head is expected to travel for more consistency and power. This is how we can practice some of these fundamental things at home :-

(i)        GRIP – Its the most fundamental aspect of the game and is the only connection with the golf club. If you are looking to change your grip than at your home take the new grip as per your preference and make a baby swing in a slow motion up to the knee height. Do this at least 30 min a day and you will see a smooth transition into your new grip.

(ii)       GRIP PRESSURE – Most of us grip the club very tightly and kill the speed of  the club head resulting into all kind of weak shots. Now what you can do is take a grip on the club (preferably PW) and hold the club by stretching your hands in front of your chest and keep it on a 45 Deg angle to the floor. The drill is that you have to hold it with just enough pressure which prevents it from becoming perpendicular or getting Horizontal to the floor. If the club get perpendicular than it’s too tightly griped and if it gets Horizontal to the floor than it is too lightly griped. Practice this to generate hand memory for the optimum grip pressure. You can practice this while sitting in your living room or on the easy chair in the balcony. If you are able to do it for 30 min a day, you are destined to increase your club head speed at least by 10 miles per hour.

(iii)      BALL POSITION – On the golf course, we rarely spend time to work on our ball position. At home what I want you to do is to mark a line on the floor and thereafter take a stance and address the golf ball with your golf clubs. Now, what I want you to take a note of the visual reference of the ball position and club head in relation to the tiles/ marking made on floor. This activity will build a very strong visual reference for you which will be immensely helpful on the golf course.

(iv)      INITIAL TAKEAWAY, TRANSITION & CORRECT SWING PLANE– Take a club (preferably a SW) and stand close to a wall in your house in  an address position. Thereafter carefully and slowly initiate the take away by keeping the club head close to the floor as long as possible and then lift it in a very slow motion using your bigger muscle ( chest & Shoulders) all the way to the top. Thereafter, take a deliberate and momentary pause on top of the swing and then start your down swing with an equally slow motion by transferring your weight and keeping your head steady at the ball. Finish your swing as if you are going to do the handshake with your target. This move will greatly enhance the awareness of position of club head in your golf swing and will also promote a fine sense of weight transfer and hip rotation . Do this at least 30 min a day and you are going to rock in your 4 ball.  If you are touching the wall with your golf club it will essentially means that you are not keeping the club on the desired plane.

(v)       PUTTING STROKE – Take two hard bound books or card box or a shoe box or anything similar and make a channel which should be as wide as the width of your putter head by putting them perpendicular to the floor. Now your aim is to make a 20 putting stroke through this channel keeping the putter head as low as possible to the floor without dropping the books or card box or touching the channel on either side. Remember there is no golf ball here. This activity will refine your putter path through the golf ball and promote more square impact in real time. With this drill you are certainly going to knock all those nerve racking 5 footer in the centre of the Cup.

5.        Dear Golfers, consider this time of social distancing as a meaningful time taken out for practicing/rehearsing your basics and enriching your foundation for playing a better golf. Take good care of yourself, stay safe and observe all advisory of corona for longevity.

1.        All of us want to play those touchy shots which can stop at the dime or may be dance around the pins on our command. I have noticed that pitching the ball softly around the green is something a lot of amateur players struggle with, but most pros find relatively simple.

2.        To pitch the ball softy onto the green firstly, you have to maintain your spine angle and knee bend/flex as the club pass through the impact. This will keeps your body quiet and promotes a solid strike and better distance control.

3.        Secondly, the important key is to allow the left elbow and wrist to bend immediately after the impact ( Observe in the title pic). This way, the face of the club will stay open and you will be able to create a very soft shot.

4.        If you want to hit soft pitch shots that stop on a dime? Allow your left elbow to bend just after the impact to keep the face open for higher Spin and trajectory. Most importantly remember that its all about allowing the left elbow to bend after the impact and NOT to bend your wrists through impact / post impact.

1.        Hitting the golf ball solid is a constant desire of every golfer and i am going to suggest you a very simple impact drill to become a more consistent ball striker in the game.

2.        I see in a lot of club golfers /amateurs that they tend to roll excessively outwards or even in the worst cases spin-out completely during their golf swing. This lack of stability does not just cause loss of power but a major loss of accuracy as well.

3.        DRILL:– The simple Feel drill is to feel your weight firmly planted on the inside of your left foot ( Front Foot) from impact to all the way through to your  finish.  Remember, Foot work is so important in golf because the golf swing works from the ground up. You will find this action common among the best ball strikers.

4.        So, next time when you are on a range, try focusing on keeping pressure inside edge of your left foot ( for Rt hand Golfer ) and right foot ( for Lt hand Golfer) through the impact zone till you achieve finish position. It is a great feel to have and can be taken to the golf course during  play. This drill is so simple that it can also serve as a nice swing thought as opposed to something overly complicated.

1.        Hello everyone, if you are having a trouble sinking breaking putts than you are on a right page. Always, there are few shots which are more daunting for professionals and amateurs like a short left-to-right-breaking putt or vice -versa. Let me introduce you to a concept in which I believe and trust whole heartedly and that is “Every putt is a straight putt”.

2.        When you know the putt will break, its hard to think of it as a straight putt. But for a great success, you must ingrain a straight stroke in your mind to consistently sink theses breaking putts. The truth is that even if the putt breaks, you should always make a straight stroke towards the chosen target/ Chosen spot on your putt line.  This Spot should be chosen in such a manner that it must represent the apex of the break on your line of putt. Now on a breaking putt your chosen spot has becomes a target on the line of your putt :- Aim it there, make a straight stroke and let the contour of the land move it towards the hole for you.

3.        Technique: – Firstly, read the green and pick your target/ Spot on your line of putt. Thereafter, address the golf ball as if the chosen spot is the Hole and roll it to that spot to hole your putts. Remember if you roll it at the right speed, the gravity will take it to the hole. On a breaking putt do not even think about the hole otherwise subconsciously you will end up steering it in that direction instead of your spot. Never set up on to the one side and then try to steer the putt to the hole.

4.        Professionals deal with these putts much more successfully by turning them into straight putts instead of fighting the break. How do they do it? Simply by picking a target/ Spot other than the hole. In the title picture you can clearly see that Tiger is aiming his putter head several cups to the left of the actual cup. He starts the ball directly at this target and allows the slope to work the ball into the hole. When you try this technique, keep in mind that the spot you pick is largely dependent on the speed at which you choose to roll the putt.

1.        Green-side pitches are the shots that recreational golfers tend to struggle with largely because they deal with all of them in a same way. This is where we go wrong and struggle with these pitches. We need to adapt to the specific conditions( lies) of each shot instead of treating all of them in a similar way. Lies are the most realistic thing which is existing on ground and visible to our naked eye in real time. I can say with a great certainty that to a larger extent, lies dictate the type and quality of shots one can execute.

2.        You should always remember that lie always dictates the type of shot you can play, as well as with what club you can play it ?. We as a golfer, very conveniently forget this golden principle and keep on attempting to pull out shots which are not conducive owning to their lies. Even the most beautiful looking swing will be of no use if the lies are not taken in to consideration before hitting the shots. Let me give you a valuable tips for the green-side encounters to save your PARs :-

Situation (A):- When you find that the ball is in a tight lie ?, Firstly, choose a Wedge/ Club with less bounce and Allow your hands to be slightly forward at address. Secondly, don’t open the club face too much, instead try to make use of bounce of the club in such lies. Lastly, just concentrate on letting the leading edge of your club contact the ground just beneath the golf ball so that bounce of the club can work in your favour.

Situation (B) :- When faced with a fluffy lie ?, Firstly, use a Club/Wedge with more bounce to ward off the long grass and Keep your hands slightly back at address. Secondly, open the club face and then take a grip on the club. Lastly, stand a bit closer to the ball and swing the club on a shallower path through the golf ball for the optimal carry and roll.

3. The most confusing aspect of these pitches are which club should i use ? and more often than not we end-up taking Lob Wedge ( The almighty 60 Deg). The average success rate fro Up & Down with LW is about 35 % with the club golfers/Amateur. The simple reason for the same is that more lofted club require greater touch to execute the delicate shots around the greens-side. Remember an another Golden Rule -” Wedges with higher lofts will invariably have the least error tolerance “. So the next time make your decision more wisely.

*Note:- Do not always & automatically choose your Lob Wedge for these shots. Sometimes a less-lofted clubs are a better option and is easier to control the distances. Have a FAITH IN YOUR ABILITY and TRUST this technique, it will do wonders to your short game around the greens.

1.        Hello everyone, a good Chipping is something which often makes or breaks the good score. In a round of golf, we are going to hit some shots which will find the fringes of the greens on either sides and require a solid technique to save the par and the score.

2.        A very common mistake made by amateur players when chipping is to place the ball too far back in the stance and lean the club shaft too far forward. This action will substantially de-loft the club and will introduce unpredictable trajectories and roll in to the chipping action.

3.        The correct technique is to keep the sole of the club head flat behind the golf ball and thereafter make a swing by keeping the shaft relatively straight up and down through impact without taking any sizable divot. This technique provides considerably more consistent results because it allows the club to strike the ball with its true loft, rather than with the much stronger loft created by forward pressing. Also keep your feet close together with your weight evenly distributed by keeping sole of your foot firmly on ground throughout the chipping motion. This will help you in keeping the balance and feel comfortable as you strike the ball.

4.        Remember, these shots are all about touch, and balance is the key. Do not forward press when chipping, it is the most fundamental error of all time. Instead, try to keep the sole of the club flat on the grass to retain the correct loft through the impact. Please take a note as to how the golfer in the picture has kept the sole of his club flat through the impact by keeping the shaft relatively straight through impact while retaining the true loft and prevented taking of any sizeable divot. The retention of this true loft through the impact zone is the key of consistent chipping and making more ups & downs around the greens for saving Pars.

1.        Hello everyone, if you are pulling out a 7 Iron out of your Golf bag instead of your regular 8 Iron than you are on a right page. Dear Golfers, have you ever realised why all of a sudden it start happening to you. I am sure your fellow friends might have suggested that you are losing distance because you are getting older. BELIEVE ME GUYS , it’s certainly not true. The reason for lack of your power likely has something to do with your angle of attack (AoA). Now you might say that if one want a more downward angle on irons shots, you could move the ball back in your stance but that would not help create the type of compression irons shots require.  A general popular advice given is that If you want your irons to behave as per your desired intent than you probably need to hit down more onto the golf ball. There is no denial that this move may add on some extra yardage to your irons with higher trajectories more spin onto the golf ball but it does not translate into a better accuracy and is more susceptible to winds.

2.        You know what better players does ? They strike down on to the ball with their irons until the club reaches its lowest point about 4 inches in front of the golf ball at impact thus ideally marrying their Angle of Attack (AoA) with their swing Path. This is the main move which allow them to hit 7 iron upto 190 Yards which is equivalent of hitting 4 iron by an amateur player.

3.        Now the question arise ? How do you create compression? The best way of doing is to have a flat lead wrist as  the club meets the ball with the golf shaft leaning forward is key to getting a quality angle of attack and bottom out your swing ahead of the golf ball.

4.        What is most important and you must remember that hitting down onto the golf ball itself is not sufficient enough unless it is married well with the Swing Path. In golf swing the swing path will change depend on to the angle of attack.  So it’s safe to say that the AoA and Swing path have a significant and direct relation with each other. Just to give you some idea below are some recorded numbers on Trackman as to how does this move actually translate in providing low trajectories, lesser spin rate and longer iron shots. For example, – 1 Degree down AoA at 80 MPH swing speed will give you atleast 7 Yards more carry distance compare to, if you are hitting +2 Deg upwardly into the golf ball. However if this AoA is increased to -7 Deg downwardly than it will give you at least 10 yards more carry distances. This scenario specially workout through 6 iron to SW. ( Given below are some tabulated numbers recorded on the Trackman for your reference, however if you are not able to see them on your Android device this will essentially means that the blog does not support the Table display. In that case, You can see the table either on your Notebook/ Laptop or Desktop.)

TABLE -A ( 7 Iron )

AoA at 80mphCarry YardsTotal YardsLaunch AngleSpin Rate
+2 Deg14415227 Deg6600 RPM
-1 Deg15216023 Deg5600 RPM
-7 Deg15516716 Deg4700 RPM

TABLE -B ( 7 Iron)

AoA at 90mphCarry YardsTotal YardsLaunch AngleSpin Rate
+2 Deg14915527 Deg8000 RPM
-1 Deg15516224 Deg7400 RPM
-7 Deg17218015 Deg6500 RPM

5.        For Example, – 1 Degree downward AoA at 90 MPH swing speed will give you a 8 Yards more carry distance compare to if you are hitting +2 Deg upwardly into the golf ball. However if the AoA is -7 Deg downwardly than it will enhance your carry distances at least by 18 yards more with club from ranging from 6 iron to SW.

6. The increase in distances as given in examples or detail of carry distances/Actual distances/ launch angle & Spin rate as mentioned in the above table can only be achieved if the swing path is In – to – Out onto the golf ball always and everytime through the impact Zone. Whereas, it is interesting to note that on the Contrary Out – to – In swing path will only produce the AoA maximum from +2 Deg upward to -1 Deg downward and is robbing you from hitting a longer carry distances with your golf swings in a real time scenario.

7.        To make it happen, you have to rehearse the correct move to create the higher AoA. Take a compression golf bag or maybe a some lighter ball like basketball or a 1kg medicine ball etc and set your club directly behind it and without using your arms or hands, make them move towards your target with the club. This will teach you as how to use the body rotation more effectively for better compression of the golf ball. Remember In – to – Out  swing path through the Impact zone can only increases the maximum angle of attack into a golf ball  for longer carry distances. This is a magic move to maximise your distance while hitting your 6 Iron to Sand Wedge. With the rest of your longer irons ( No 3, 4, 5 irons) we make more of a sweeping motion through the golf ball instead of downward blow to achieve ideal launch conditions.

Happy Golfing.

Very warm greetings to my fellow golfers

1.        The very fact that your responses to earlier blogs are so overwhelming that they have become the reason enough for me to write my next blog on putting. Let me assure you that you are on a correct path and will certainly make improvements in your golf game.

2.        In Golf every aspect is important and when it comes to putting it becomes super important to be a good putter on the greens. The sole reason of this unilateral importance is that almost 50% shots in golf are played with your putter. On a 18 Hole golf course which is of PAR 72, almost 36 shots are played with the putter. The sheer rise of Tiger Woods during his Tiger Slam or Tiger Era whatever you would prefer to call was essentially rested on his putting throughout the period of his dominance. Tiger Woods could putt from such situations and positions from where no one did better than him. If you can putt well you can certainly win big games and big matches in Tournaments.

3.        I am certain that you must have heard almost every golfer saying that putting is an individual thing and there is no set mechanics to become a better putter. In my opinion this thought process is the root cause of our non-progressiveness self. I would like to offer a counter argument to this popular belief by saying that if that would be the case than why there are countless drills and methodology to learn better putting. Further you will often hear putting gurus stressing that putting is a pendulum motion. This is where, I come in and define “Putting as a pendulum motion created in a Controlled environment which is capable of producing big results”.

4.        Now the question arise as to how do I make this happen ?. The first step towards this is to understand your own putting stroke tendencies. Once you figure that out, the next step is to know which type of putter is the most suitable and can provide most forgiveness and better results on the greens. There are different kinds of putter in the Pro Shops / Golf stores like Mallet Putters; Blade putters, Centre Shafted Putters, Toe-hung Putters, High MOI Putters and many more such design concepts.

5.        Now the natural question arises as to which putter is better for a particular putting stroke.  Let me make you aware about some of our putting stroke tendencies and suggest corresponding putter-head to counter balance them for better putting on Greens:-

(i)        Firstly, if your putting Arc is more severe then I would suggest that do not look anywhere? Just buy the Blade putter with maximum offset of shaft fitted towards the heel side of the putter-head. This will give you the higher error tolerance and you are on your way to make more putts on greens.

(ii)       Secondly, if your putting Arc is moderate than you should have a Blade putter with standard offset of shaft fitted towards the heel of the putter head.

(ii)       Thirdly, if your putting arc is minimum than you should have a Blade putter with least offset of shaft fitted towards the heel of the putter head.

(v)       Fourthly, if your way of putting is more off a straight back and straight forward through the golf ball than stay with a Mallet putter. This will provide a more stability to the putter face especially which are from the off centre hits. Centre Shafted putter head will also be a good option for you.

6.        My study reveals that we miss more putts by causing Blocks in a pendulum motion. Block is an inaccurate way of releasing the putter-head. If we do not release the putter-head during the putting stroke, it will cause push-out of the golf ball to the right side of the Hole. Also an early release of putter-head through the impact zone will pull the putts onto the left side of the Hole. The endeavour should be to make a fluid pendulum motion without much of the active involvement of wrists. Allow the weight of putter-head to hinge your wrists in the putting motion instead of involving active use of your wrists by yourself. Just focus on the length of the putting stroke and rest will be automatically taken care by the putter-head provided you have build  a good putting fundamentals in your address position before stroking the putt.

7.        Be assured that my aforesaid advices / suggestion or instructions will certainly help you to play better golf. I am looking forward to hear your views in the comment sectionto further refine my research and come up with more easily adaptable solutions for playing better golf.

1.        Dear Fellow Golfers, Greetings to all of you. I have all the right reasons to believe that you must have had the good Golf outings and Concept of visualization must have helped in enjoying your round of Golf.

2.        Today, I am going to talk about the importance of “Addressing the Golf Ball as per your Biomechanics and integration of its general tendenciesbefore you swing through the golf ball. There is a plethora of instruction already exit out there in the environment, however I still see my fellow golfers struggling to make the desirable contact with the golf ball. I have observed that most of the golfers address the golf ball in a very mechanical way owning to their pre-requisite information or taking clue from the instructional videos available on various media platforms and completely disregard their own bodily dynamics / Biomechanics.

3.        The dictionary meaning of Biomechanics is the study of mechanical laws relating to the movement or structure of living organisms. When, I uses the word ‘Biomechanics’: I essentially means the ‘Sports biomechanics’ and in that an athlete must integrate his bodily tendencies to accommodate the unique adjustment to his sport. In term of Golf as a golfer you must integrate your bodily tendencies while addressing the Golf ball and build your stance as well as find your ball position keeping your general tendencies in mind. During my research work, I have found that whenever a Golf player has addressed the golf ball accommodating his biomechanics at address position itself, the desired outcome from his golf swing have always been very encouraging and consistent. These observations provoked my thoughts to study their amalgamation in golf. These general tendencies might be of swaying/leaning a bit during the take-away of the golf club during the back swing, or marginally dipping down during your downswing, or premature curiosity to see the flight of golf ball. You must be wondering?  Why I am saying so? and the reason is that the regular club golfer either does not get enough time or he/she is reluctant to put desired practice hours for the purpose of ironing out these tendencies to achieve an ideal positions at address & in golf swing. Therefore if a regular club golfer can incorporate these bodily tendencies at address stage itself, than he is likely to  derive a great benefit despite less or negligible practices.

4.        Now the question arise ? How do I do it ?.  As per my countless observations and trials in this area of study, I believe that the following steps will certainly help you to go through the golf ball a bit more solidly in a golf swing. This will instantly boost your  confidence and you will strike the golf ball more consistently (Especially with irons ) :-

  • Step 1– Firstly identify your general bodily tendencies which occur in your golf swing. Some of them could be :-

* Are you dipping down or raising up your upper body in down swing ?

* Are you looking up a bit early in the golf swing to see the flight of the golf ?

* Is your angle of attack onto the golf ball is a steeper or shallower?

*  Do you sway backward during backswing & have an similar tendency to sway/lean forward in downswing.

  • Step 2– On identifying your own tendencies correctly, you can do the following integration in your set-up at address position for more consistency and better ball striking :-
  • If you are dipping down in the golf swing than stand a bit closer to the golf ball in your address and move the position of your golf ball marginally backward in your stance compare to your current ball positioning.
  • If you are raising your upper body in the golf swing than stand a bit far from the golf ball in your address and shift your ball position marginally forward in your stance compare to your current ball positioning. This will certainly enhance your probability to connect the golf ball in an early upswing path.
  • If you are pre-maturely looking up to see the flight of golf than stand normal in your address position but move your ball position  one golf ball forward in your stance compare to your current ball positioning. This will enhance the probability of club head catching the golf ball more appropriately onto its face which has relatively started moving upwardly a bit early.
  • If your body find better stability by taking a relatively narrow stance than the more chances will be that you will sway backward during takeaway. In such cases do not swing higer than  ¾th position ( 10 o’clock position ) in the backswing for more consistencies. This will help you in correct shifting of weight during the golf swing.
  • If your body find more stability by taking a relatively wider stance than most likely you would fall backward due to incorrect shifting of weight. In such cases you must restrict your follow-through to ¾th position ( 2 o’clock position ) in a golf swing to avoid reverse- C position.

5.        Dear golfer, there is no substitute for playing better golf without putting adequate hours of practice sessions on the golf range and build the ideal foundation and desirable motor patterns. If you can put desired practice hours on the Golf range than my suggestion would always be to try and iron out these tendencies and bring them to the level of bare minimum interference during the golf swing. However, my aforesaid suggestions will be a step towards extending my help to you in order to find more enjoyment in your next round of golf. Be assured that my aforesaid advises / suggestion will certainly help you to play better and boost your confidence in your next round of Golf.
